I see your points and I agree with you for the most part. Maradona wasted his glory in a shameful and ignominious lifestyle. On the other hand, I believe people compare the two simply because they want to see Messi wining the fifa world cup, the only thing yet to achieve. Me too, despite I dont want the argentines wining, I want to see how massi plays a world cup final and seal his great as a world champion.
